HB A&P Show School Challenge

This challenge is for Primary and Intermediate Schools

We are inviting schools across the region to rally their students, get creative, and go head-to-head for the title of School Challenge Champions at this year’s HB A&P Show.

This is all about participation, teamwork, and celebrating talent across a range of fun and accessible competitions, no matter the size of your school.

 

How It Works
Schools earn points every time one of their students enters into any of the designated School Challenge events:

  • Art Competition

  • Pet Competition

  • Junior Poultry

  • Hobby Horse

  • Handmade Competition

The more students who enter, the more points your school racks up. To keep it fair, points will be partially calculated proportionally based on school roll size, so small rural schools and bigger town schools compete fairly.

Example Scoring:

  • 1 point for every entry in a School Challenge event 

  • Points are divided by the total school roll, then multiplied by 100 to give a “participation score” (e.g., 25 entries from a roll of 100 = 25% = 25 points). This is capped at 30 points.

  • Bonus points for placings, 1st = 5, 2nd = 3, 3rd = 1.

Prizes & Glory

  • 1st place: $1000 Cash prize for the school + School Challenge Trophy.

  • 2nd place: $500 Cash prize for the school.

  • 3rd place: $250 Cash prize for the school.

  • Spot prizes awarded throughout the day for standout moments, sportsmanship, and school spirit.
     

Why It Works
This system means every school, no matter how big or small, has a shot at winning by encouraging as many students as possible to have a go. Whether it’s showing off a prized chicken, baking something special, or creating a work of art, every entry counts  and the more variety, the better your chances.

 

Entries are open from the 1st of August and will close on the 6th of October.
