Welcoming around 15,000 visitors through the gates at the Tomoana Showgrounds, the Hawke’s Bay A&P Show is a massive event that brings rural life to the city like no other event can.
The show is a great success every year thanks to the staff, supporters, sponsors, members and community who help make it happen. Some of the country’s best and most prestigious livestock and equestrian events pack the schedule, accompanied by fun-filled family entertainment. The HB A&P Show resonates with the people of Hawke’s Bay and has a positive impact on the primary sector.
A highlight in the Hawke’s Bay calendar
The HB A&P Show focuses on agricultural and pastoral elements; animals, competitions and the prestige associated with winning top prizes for the best of the best livestock.
Visitors to the show have the opportunity to see horses, ponies, sheep, alpacas, dogs, pigs, poultry and so much more. Shearing competitions are fast and furious, watch Woodchoppers competitions or the Freestyle NZ high adrenaline and edge of your seat FMX shows, and world-class equestrians strut their stuff to the audience’s delight. Crowd favourite remains the farmyard and petting zoo, which is considered one of the best in New Zealand. Families love the opportunity to get up close to all kinds of farm animals. Carnival rides continue to be popular and a show visit is never complete without a hotdog on stick.
Rural enthusiasts delight in the huge array of livestock displays and competitions, agricultural machinery, seminars and educational talks. Trading opportunities are provided with a huge number of retail and hospitality stands.

The A&P Shows play an important role in the development and preservation of regional communities throughout New Zealand. Show day provides positive social impact, alongside the many beneficial partnerships formed with community organisations.
The show’s contribution to community enhances wellbeing in our region. It’s evident across the board from equestrian sports and livestock displays, through to community organisations benefitting from the opportunity to raise funds at the event.

- The Hawke’s Bay A&P Show will be partially closed on Thursday due to strong wind warnings.
- Public access and gate sales are CLOSED for Thursday.
- Trade exhibits are CANCELLED for Thursday.
- Equestrian competitions will continue under a controlled environment until midday. Competitors who feel their trucks are parked in an unsafe area, such as under trees, are encouraged to relocate to Gate 13.
- All Thursday afternoon functions have been POSTPONED. We are working on rescheduling these and will provide updated details soon.
- The Design, Make & Model competition will still go ahead as planned.
- All other competitions will cease from midday, and rescheduling information will be shared directly with competitors once confirmed.
- BWR Women in Business Lunch will still go ahead as planned as it is a controlled event and safety measures are in place.
- Safety remains our top priority - no event will proceed where conditions could compromise people, animals, or infrastructure.
- We are monitoring the situation closely and hold the right to make changes as necessary.
- Friday Show Day will continue as planned. We see no concerns at this point but we will continue to watch the weather and provide updates as possible.
