HB Woodturners Wood Craft Competition

When: Entries displayed throught the Show, prizegiving will be held at at a later date at the HB Woodturners Guild Club Rooms

Where: Centre of Exhibition Hall - Indoor Trade & Handmade

Fees: A small fee of $5 per entry.

Prizes: Cash or gift vouchers will be awarded to 1st, 2nd and 3rd placings in each class, along with Prize Cards.

Each entrant will receive a complimentary ticket to attend the HB A&P Show.

The HB Woodturners Wood Craft Competition encourages anyone from the community to enter their woodturning creations from the past year into our various competition classes. Judging of entries will take place prior to the Show and Prize Cards with 1st, 2nd and 3rd placings will be displayed with them at the Show. We will be holding a prizegiving on Friday to present the winners of the best in show trophies, so please make sure you are in attandance in case your entry is chosen. Prizes in the form of cash or gift voucher will be awarded to 1st, 2nd and 3rd placings in each class, along with Prize Cards.

You can register from 1st August. Entries close on 27th September.

Entries to be delivered to the Tomoana Showgrounds, Exhibition Hall between 10am-2pm on Tuesday 22nd October - or otherwise arranged with Tony Larrington-Lewer.

Classes:

  • Novice - This class is open to turners who have been turning for 1 year or less or who belong to a guild or club, and are currently turning and/or operating within the Novice Class. Entries may include any item which has principally been turned on a lathe, but may also be decorated or shaped with other tools; and shall include items that would otherwise qualify for entry into one of the below classes.
  • Decorated Bowls - Wooden items which have been turned into a bowl shape which may be decorated, coloured, textured or otherwise enhanced. There is no size prescription.
  • Constructed Piece - Does not have to be turned on a lathe. May be an object of multiple pieces e.g. Small furniture, lidded boxes etc.
  • Plain Bowls - Wooden items which have been turned into a bowl shape finished on a lathe, all surfaces having been finished on a lathe. No detailing, decoration, colouring, texturing, embellishment or re-shaping with other tools. There is no size prescription
  • Plates/Platters - Wooden items which have been turned into a plate/platter shape on a lathe, and may be decorated with other materials. The height must not exceed 20% of the diameter, e.g. A 250mm diameter piece must not exceed 50mm in height
  • Hollow Form / Vases - Hollow forms are wooden items which have been turned on a lathe through a hole which is significantly smaller than the diameter of the finished work. Vases are wooden items which are at least twice as high as the greatest diameter and have been hollowed while turning on a lathe through the main opening. Both hollow forms and vases may be decorated with other materials
  • Domestic Ware - Wooden items which may be decorated with other materials. This includes items such as rolling pins, spoons/scoops, egg cups, goblets, salt and pepper shakers, egg timers, lamp stands, stools and any other ietm the maker beleives to be utilitarian in a domestic situation. Size not to exceed 1500mm for the longest axis pluse width and depth at the widest points measured at right angles to the longest axis.
  • Lidded Boxes - Any wooden item with a lid that fits into, or over the body of the work, to enclose a useable space within. Maximum size at the extremities 250mm. (Note: this excludes making boxes which cannot be possibly used to contain anything useful
